Security Guards Convicted of Cocaine Charges
Two Security Guards of St. James addresses were on Monday June 18, 2018 convicted and sentenced to three years imprisonment when they appeared before the St. James Parish Court for breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Facts are that, both men were arrested and charged in 2013 during a major operation with MOCA, Jamaica Defence Force and Narcotics Division when the armoured vehicle in which they were travelling was intercepted in Montpelier St. James. The vehicle was searched and sixty-six kilos (66 kilos) of cocaine found, it had an estimated value of Two Hundred and Sixty-four Million Dollars ($264,000,000).
They were subsequently convicted for possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine and trafficking cocaine and will serve a term of three years imprisonment. Both men were also ordered to pay a fine of Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($500,000) each.
