Corporal Dave Dewar of the Manchester Police Division was offered bail in the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($150,000.00) when he appeared in the Manchester Parish Court today. He was charged by detectives from MOCA on Monday April 9, 2018 for Fraudulent Conversion and Attempting to Pervert the Course of Justice.
It is alleged that in February 2018, Dewar volunteered to retain an attorney for the complainant who was in custody in Mandeville. The complainant agreed and gave instructions for the police corporal to obtain Seventy Four Thousand Three Hundred and Twenty – One Dollars ($74,321.00) on his behalf and make contact with an attorney. However upon receiving the money Dewar converted it to his own use.
A report was subsequently made to MOCA and an investigation conducted. During which it was revealed that Dewar attempted to persuade the complainant to retracting the report he made about the matter.
Dewar will re-appear in the Manchester Parish Court on Thursday April 26, 2018.
