Lottery Scammer Sentenced to Eighteen Months

Oshane Dehaney was sentenced to Eighteen months in prison at hard labour, when he appeared in the St. James Parish court on Thursday October 18, 2018; after he pled guilty to breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction)(Special Provisions) Act.

On Saturday July 2, 2016 an anti-lottery scam operation was carried out by members of MOCA West with the assistance of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Jamaica Defense Force (JDF) in sections of Anchovy St. James. During the operation a house belonging to Dehaney was searched and several lottery scamming paraphernalia were found.

Subsequently he was arrested and charged for breaching section 10 (1) of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transaction)(Special Provisions) Act, 2013. He was later offered bail in the sum of Four Hundred Thousand Dollars ($400,000.00).

On Wednesday October 8, 2018, Dehaney pled guilty to the charges in the St. James Circuit Court, following which he was sentenced ten days later.
