Lottery Scam Mastermind Associate Nabbed
Junie Harvey, businesswoman of a Red Hills, St. Andrew address and an associate of alleged mastermind Joseph Grant was arrested and charged for Breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) on September 3, 2019.
On Tuesday September 3, 2019 about 5:00am the Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency (MOCA) along with the Financial Investigation Division (FID) conducted joint operation at several locations within the corporate area. During a search of Harvey’s premises documents and equipment believed to be used in lottery scamming were seized.
Detectives from MOCA commenced an investigation in 2017 regarding lottery scamming activities in several parishes across the island. During the investigation it was revealed that between May 2016 and March 2017, Harvey and other associates of Grant engaged unsuspecting victims from the United States of America, by way of lottery scamming activities. During this period Grant and his co-accused managed to fleece the victims of over Two Hundred and Thirty Thousand Dollars in US currency ($230,000US).
Junie Harvey was bailed in the sum of Four Hundred Thousand Dollars ($400,000.00) and appeared before the Kingston St. Andrew Parish Court on Thursday September 5, 2019, where her bail was extended.
