Renford Orland Soares of Havendale, Kingston was arrested and charged by detectives from MOCA, after he purported to be a Customs Officer of the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA).
Soares was charged on Tuesday February 26, 2019 for the offence of Obtaining Money By False Pretence when he was positively identified by the complainant. Allegations are that between January 10 and 18, 2017 he told the complainant that he was a Customs Officer and that he could purchase two motor vehicles for him through an auction at the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) with a total value of One Million One Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1,100,000). The complainant subsequently gave Soares Eight Hundred and Ten Thousand Dollars ($810,000 however, he was unable to make any further contact with him after handing over the money.
The matter was then reported to MOCA after which the accused was apprehended and placed before an identification parade where was pointed out by the complainant. He is scheduled to appear before the Kingston St. Andrew Parish Court on Thursday March 7, 2019
